1911
Description
Due to financial strain, inconsistencies in curricula, and poor conditions at many schools, Canada signed formal agreements with churches to govern the running and funding of residential schools. These agreements included the requirement to admit students between the ages of 7 and 18, to follow curriculum laid out my the government, to hire only teachers approved by the Department of Indian Affairs, and to supply students with adequate clothing, food, and sanitary conditions.
