The NCTR's mandate flows directly from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement. The NCTR is the permanent repository for all statements, documents, and other materials collected by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The NCTR now cares for thousands of Survivor statements and millions of records. The NCTR has the responsibility to share these truths with Canada in a respectful way to advance the ongoing work of truth, reconciliation, and healing. The Centre works with Indigenous and non-Indigenous educators, researchers, communities, and decision-makers to advance the ongoing work of reconciliation across Canada and beyond. The NCTR is a proud partner of the University of British Columbia’s Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre. The NCTR honours the work of UBC and its longstanding commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
